He wouldn't be in a car waiting on a traffic light or standing on a street corner. Impeccably dressed, surrounded by family, Jones would attend the induction banquet for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. The intersection would be one not of travel, but of history. If it were a journey of sorts, Jones may be the only person for whom the lines had connected in just this way.
Jones, a former University of Alabama basketball player, wasn't being honored for his own athletic accomplishments. Instead, he represented his father, the late Bill Jones, the man who essentially personified the University of North Alabama basketball program for 40 years and coached the Lions to an NCAA Division II championship in 1979.
